Locales Design Print - Yorkville

Yorkville is a top destination for high-end boutiques, galleries and design studios. This locale features chic cafes, bars, fine-dining, and luxury hotels frequented by Hollywood insiders during the Toronto International Film Festival. Side streets are lined with picture-postcard Victorian homes with ornamental gardens.  The Village of Yorkville Park (constructed 1992-94), depicted in this design, located on the south side of Cumberland Street, received numerous awards in 1997 including; the American Society of Landscape Architects Award, the International Downtown's Association Award of Merit, and the City of Toronto Urban Design Award of Excellence.  Yorkville was founded in 1830 by entrepreneur Joseph Bloore (Bloor Street) and William Botsford Jarvis, as a residential suburb. In the 1960s, Yorkville flourished as Toronto's bohemian cultural centre. It was the breeding ground for some of Canada's most noted musical and literary talents including, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, and Margaret Atwood.

Locales Design is the creation of Carolyn Graziani, a seasoned Graphic Designer, based in Toronto.  Carolyn's professional life has included working in the media as the Art Director at Citytv, as well as Art Direction and Design in the Advertising and Publishing industries. Each original design offers Carolyn's playful take on a colourful neighbourhood locale.
